Background and Identification
The Nellcor Puritan Bennett NPB-295 is a portable pulse oximeter made by Mallinckrodt’s Nellcor division. Pulse oximeters are non-invasive devices used to monitor a patient’s oxygen saturation. The Nellcor division focuses mainly on producing pulse oximeters and oxygen monitors.
The NPB-295 model is designed for continuous monitoring of the patient’s pulse rate and arterial oxygen saturation. It can be used for adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients. This pulse oximeter can be used in home environments, hospitals and hospital-type facilities, and during intra-hospital transport. The NPB-295 pulse oximeter can operate on its rechargeable internal battery or on AC power.
Oxygen saturation and pulse rate are presented on the monitor’s digital display. A plethysmographic waveform or a 10-segment blip bar are used to indicate pulse intensity. Using four softkeys on the monitor’s front face, users can access trend information, choose the language, select an alarm limit to be changed, adjust the internal time clock, and change communications protocols.
The NPB-295 pulse oximeter includes the name “NELLCOR PURITAN BENNETT” printed in capital letters above the device’s display. The model number, ‘NPB-295,’ is also printed above the monitor’s display. A saturated oxygen sensor port is placed in the upper left-hand corner of the monitor’s front face. The monitor’s speaker is located in the lower left-hand corner of the model’s front cover.
