Background and Identification

The Elite Triad EX-3 is a small toy dart gun released by Nerf in 2013. It resembles a small handgun and comes in a color scheme of white, gray, blue, orange, and black. Nerf re-released the blaster in 2014 with a simpler color scheme of white, orange, and blue. The gun has three barrels in a triangle on the front where you load and fire Nerf foam darts. You can identify this specific Nerf model by looking for the words “Triad EX-3” written on the side of the barrel. Since it was released as part of the N-Strike Elite series, it also has a triangular N-Strike logo on the grip.

To fire the Triad EX-3, you first load a dart into one or more of the barrels, pull the plunger on the bottom of the grip, and then pull the trigger to shoot the dart. Some clever engineering in the gun means that you can fire a dart from any of the chambers; a mechanism inside will restrict air to only the barrel that has a dart in it. If all the chambers are full, the darts are fired starting with the bottom barrel and moving clockwise.

The blaster was sold for about $6 or $7 dollars. According to a test on YouTube, the gun can fire darts at a range of about 55-60 feet (16.7 m). Versions of the gun with a gray trigger have a lower range of about 45 feet (13.7 m) as shown in this Outback Nerf review. As part of the N-Strike Elite series, the Triad EX-3 uses Elite Darts.
