Background and Identification
The Datex-Ohmeda Aestiva/5 7900 anesthesia ventilator is an electronically controlled, pneumatically driven ventilator with integrated monitoring systems for inspired oxygen, airway pressure, and exhaled volume. It is a component of the Aestiva Anesthesia Machine and is designed to assist in delivery of anesthesia. The primary advantage of using the Aestiva system is that it negates the need to bring a full ICU ventilator into the OR, preserving some capabilities in order to provide patients with a steady supply of air.
The Aestiva 7900 is available with multiple optional features, such as two additional ventilation modes. It is designed as a highly modular system; the ventilator can be used without the anesthesia, and different components can be easily swapped in and out. The device also compensates for tidal volume, easily switches from mechanical ventilation to manual ventilation with the flick of a switch, and supports a cardiac bypass mode for when the patient is on a heart/lung machine.
Ease of maintenance is a priority regarding the Aestiva anesthesia system. Components can be disassembled without any tools, the entire patient breathing system is latex-free and autoclavable, and only two maintenance checks are required per year. In addition, the system is significantly shorter than many others on the market, offering extra room to maneuver.
The Aestiva 7900 is part of the Aestiva/5 system, which can be recognized by the prominent branding on the top section of the device.
