Background and Identification

The Penlon company has 75 years of experience in the development and manufacture of anesthesia and other medical products. Founded by H.G. Epstein and S.F. Suffolk, their goal was to create an accurate, lightweight chloroform vaporizer to be used by airborne forces. In December of 1957, the founders of the company purchased a school and began construction on a new factory which they moved into during the summer of 1960. In this new factory, they created the OMV-50 vaporizer along with many other similar inhalers.

Penlon originally was called the Longworth Scientific Instrument Company Limited.

The “OVM” of Penlon OVM50 stands for “Oxford Vaporizer Minature.”
