Background
The Philips Respironics Esprit Ventilator is a respiratory life-support device made by the company Philips. The Esprit was released in the 2000’s when Philips transitioned from making household products to modern healthcare devices. While no longer sold on the Philips website, the Esprit is still available online through medical retailers.
The Esprit ventilator provides invasive and non-invasive ventilation for hospital patients of all ages. This ventilator is microprocessor driven and offers continuous or intermittent ventilation. The ventilator contains no air compressor, allowing it to run on either AC power, external battery, or battery pack.
The Esprit also includes the Auto-Trak algorithm, which uses sensors that automatically adjust to a patient’s breathing patterns and dynamic leaks. The device offers breath type options for Volume Control Ventilation (VCV), Pressure Control Volume (PCV), Non-Invasive Positive Pressure Ventilation (NPPV), and Apnea Ventilation.
Features of the Esprit include a full-color touch screen, standard breathing circuit and filters, prioritized alarms, and a variety of graphics that indicate a patient’s condition.
Philips ventilators have undergone a series of recalls for devices made between 2009 and 2021. The FDA recommends registering any Respironics devices on the Philips Respironics recall website.
Identification
The Philips Respironics Esprit Ventilator has a box-like appearance and the option to attach a rolling stand to the bottom of the device. The product number, serial number, bar code, model type, and manufactured year can be found on a white sticker at the base of the device.
