Background and Identification
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 is the second generation of Android tablets produced by Samsung Electronics. Announced at the 2012 Mobile World Conference, the Tab 2 comes in two sizes, the 7.0 and 10.1, and is aimed at the budget markets. The Tab 2 succeeds the original Tab from 2010.
Originally released with the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the Tab 2 was later upgraded to Android 4.2.2. Jelly Bean through an over-the-air software update. Both models are available in WiFi only and LTE and WiFi variants and can be combined with various storage options from 16 GB to 32 GB (microSDXC for expansion).
The Tab 2 features a slightly thicker chipset, the TI OMAP4430 1.0 GHz dual-core, which has trouble running large 1080p movies smoothly and its screen color accuracy is not up to par with its predecessor. The screen looks has more green tones and colors appear washed out. However, the Tab 2 has powerful speakers and a responsive screen with good sensitivity. A cool feature of the Tab 2 is the IR blaster that works with the Peel’s included Smart Remote app that allows the tablet to turn into a remote control for a T.V.
Overall, the Tab 2 is a dual-core table with a minimum of 16 GB storage and average performance.
