Background

The Siemens MultiGas MultiGas Plus is a medical device to measure a patient's respiratory and anesthetic gases. It can automatically identify five commonly used anesthetic agents, including Isoflurane, Halothane, Enflurane, Sevoflurane and Desflurane.

Furthermore, it can share the detected anesthetic agent and its measurement data with the host device, which could be an SC 9000, SC 7000, SC 9000XL, SC 8000 Patient Monitor, or KION. Additionally, these modules can monitor respiratory gases such as CO2, N2O, and O2 and transmit measurement data to the host device as waveforms (excluding N2O) and parameters.

Identification

When linking the MultiGas device with the host monitor, one can use the INFINITY Device Communication Power Supply (CPS), INFINITY Docking Station (IDS), or SC 8000 Patient Monitor. The connection between the MultiGas and the SC 8000 or X12 on the CPS/IDS is established by a cable attached to the RS232 port at the back of the MGM. While the MultiGas is connected, the host monitor displays only parameter and setup information. If the module is disconnected, all parameters, waveforms, and setup menus will stay on the display until the host is turned off.

The Siemens MultiGas MultiGas Plus typically consists of a control unit and a measurement unit which are connected by a cable. The control unit includes the electronics, display, and user interface for the analyzer. The measurement unit contains the optical bench and sample gas cell for the NDIR measurement.

The measurement unit is a cylindrical metal section with an optical window on one side where the sample gas is measured. The control unit is rectangular metal with a display and keypad for user interaction. The dimensions of the measurement and control units differ according to the specific configuration and options selected but are usually compact and designed for easy installation in industrial environments.

The model number is located on a label or nameplate on the front or back of the device, which is visible when the measurement unit is removed from its mounting bracket. The model number is also listed in the user manual and packaging.

The standard colour for the Siemens Ultramat 23 gas analyzer is dark gray. However, customized housings and colours may be available depending on the requirements and specifications.

The device's unique technical specifications, like the non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) spectroscopy measuring principle, measurement range, and response time, can help users distinguish it from other gas analyzers.
