Background

The Servo Ventilator 300/300A is a lung ventilator that can be used on adult, pediatric and neonatal patients. It is made by the company Siemens Healthineers, which is a German medical device company. This device was released to the public at 1990s and not exclusive to certain countries.

The ventilator has the advantages of simple parameter setting and direct display of patient vital parameters, and is widely used in large and medium-sized hospitals.

Based on SV300, SV300A offers an automode feature, which was launched for the first time together with SV300A. This feature has a huge positive impact on patient comfort which can be demonstrated by the earlier and reduced sedation requirement. The principle of automode feature is that when the ventilator detects the sign of respiratory effort, it allows the patient to breathe as well as guarantees volume or pressure support, and as apnea occurs, the machine switches to control mode again.

Identification

To identify Siemens Servo SV300 and SV300A, the bottom-right of the control unit panel should have the Siemens logo and the model number is at the right hand side of the logo.

The ventilator has two main units: control unit and patient unit which are linked by a 2.9-meter-long cable. Both of the two units are white cuboid.

The control unit panel of the ventilator has nineteen knobs for setting and a number of displays and bar graphs for showing information about the settings as well as the patient’s breathing. For Siemens Servo SV300A, it adds a unique blue area on the top-right of the panel specifically for automode function.
