Background and Identification

Stretchers are used to transport patients that need to be relocated for medical care but cannot move themselves. Stretchers are an important subcategory of medical furniture, although they are not primarily used in hospitals themselves. Stretchers are most commonly used on-site to transport patients from the site of an accident to a medical care facility. For instance, stretchers are commonly used by emergency medical services (EMS) personnel, military medical care providers, and search and rescue personnel. There are a variety of different types of stretchers, but the most common type today is wheeled stretchers.

The Hausted Steris Gemini Series of stretchers is a specific product line of stretchers commonly used in the medical field. Steris Gemini stretchers aim to be sturdy and reliable, while still being lightweight enough for easy patient transport.

Steris Gemini stretchers have a patient bed/utility table supported by a wheeled base. Steris Gemini stretchers also have guard rails on the sides for additional patient safety and ease of transport.

Steris Gemini stretchers also have brakes, which prevent the stretcher from moving when it isn’t supposed to. The stretcher can be locked in place by pressing the red wheel pedal down to about 45 degrees. The stretcher can be released from the braking position by moving the green pedal to a horizontal position.
