Background and Identification

The WD My Book Live is a network-attached storage (NAS) device that allow you to store files and backups from any computer connected to your home network. To use the device, plug in the AC power adapter and attach an Ethernet cable from the port on the back of the My Book Live to a port on your router as shown in the manual. You can configure the settings of the device (date, users, public shares, etc) by entering the IP address of the My Book Live into your browser to access the device dashboard.

WD’s My Book Live was sold with storage for 1 TB, 2 TB, or 3 TB of data. You can replace or upgrade the standard 3.5-inch drive inside by opening up the case. Follow the teardown for the Western Digital My Book Live for more info.

The My Book Live comes in a black plastic case shaped like, well, a book with a curved spine. The case has a small indicator light on the front as well as the WD brand logo. You can identify the My Book Live by looking for the model number on a sticker on the bottom of the device. The model number of your device depends on the amount of storage it originally shipped with:

  • 3 TB: WDBACG0030HCH
  • 2 TB: WDBACG0020HCH
  • 1 TB: WDBACG0010HCH
