• California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo
  • Computer Engineering—I was really interested in doing Electrical Engineering but knew that knowledge in computer science would be really helpful in that field.
  • Aspirations—With my degree, I would like to do something slightly unconventional. I have a really big passion for animals and for the environment and so I am looking into doing sensors for endangered species and coral reefs. The main thing I love about my major is that it can apply to any field.
  • Skills— Python is my strongest programming language. I have some experience with using C for Arduino and am currently doing Object-Oriented Programming in Java. I learned Data Structures and Computer Science Fundamentals in Python. I have also done digital design in System Verilog and have some experience with the Eagle Software for designing circuits.
  • Projects/accomplishments—For my Intro to Computer Engineering class freshman year, myself and three other students built an automated dog feeder that released food using a servo. The servo rotated based on a timer programmed into an Arduino. The feeder also kept track of where the dog was using an RFID sensor placed in a doorway. The premise was that we had to create a product that we thought would assist the elderly. It involved an interview and brainstorming process followed by design and execution.
  • Repair experience—I broke the internal antenna on my iPhone 7s and took it apart, bought a new back online and moved all of the internal components to the new shell and closed it back up. Still worked afterward and I finally had cellular service.
  • Accolades—Co-Communications officer on the executive board of Cal Poly Democrats
  • Groups/memberships—Cal Poly Democrats, Kappa Alpha Theta
  • Hobbies—Going to the beach, playing beach volleyball, watercolor painting, anything that involves drawing or crafting.
  • How does this project relate to you?—As a computer engineer, i’m really interested in the way things work and how they look on the inside. I love taking things apart and trying to put them back together so I am very excited about this project and the opportunity to do this with a product I may not be familiar with.
  • Any other fun facts you’d like to add?— I’m from Bellevue, WA, I was born in Belgrade, Serbia and immigrated to the US in 2002, I still speak Serbian at home and am fluent in it as well as Bosnian, Montenegrian, and Croatian, my whole extended family still lives in Serbia and we go back Fairly frequently to visit.
