Hello, my name is Tanner Brook. I am a junior at Eastern Washington University. I am a transfer student from Spokane Falls Community College. I am currently majoring in electrical engineering.

I have been interested in electricity for as long as I can remember. When I was young I was shocked by a power outlet. Now, for most kids this would scare them off; but not me. I was so interested in knowing how and why that happened. I began learning how electricity flows and what effects it. Ever since this shocking day, I have known I want to work with electricity in some form or another.

In high school science class we got to make a simple electronic circuit, that was able to turn on and off a switch. The switch was connected to a horn and would turn on and off when flipped. After building this circuit with my hands and watching it work, I was mesmerized.

We had to work with diodes, capacitors, and resistors. The point of the circuit was to set off an alarm when triggered. This is something that would be used in any business today as an alarm system.

Once I had experienced the hands on work of building something as simple as an alarm, I wanted to do more. I have some, but little experience in building computers. My dad has always been the type of guy to by the parts and put it together, and I feel like I am the same way. I love being able to see how the parts go together so I know how everything works. After I graduated high school I took on a project with my dad to rebuild my computer. We switched out the graphics card, motherboard, the central processing unit, the ram and the hard drive. After it was all done, I felt like I could build anything.

All of these experiences are what lead me to want to work with electricity. My goal is to be able to work on or help create a way to reduce how much energy it takes to run our world. I would love to work on a project that allows everyone the ability to access electricity. It is something that can change so many lives, and I would love to be a part of that.
