Hello there! My name is Mariana Inofuentes and I am a second year industrial engineering student at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. I am also minoring in entrepreneurship.

Background

Since I was around eight years old, I always knew that I wanted to spend my life creating contraptions and learning how things are made. I would spend hours as a child filling notebooks with product design ideas and dreaming about starting my own business one day. After moving to China for a couple of years around the age of ten, my curiosity further grew, as trips to blow molding water bottle factories and soccer ball manufactures ignited excitement within me. My mind is constantly churning with ideas on how to make things better. Whenever something breaks around the house, everyone knows who to call to fix the problem. From fixing broken door hinges to troubleshooting and backing up computers and phones, I am more than happy to put my brain to work on life’s little puzzles.

Projects/Accomplishments

I have interned in the summer 2019 in Dongguan, China for a company called JR286, visiting sports accessories factories, collecting data, and conducting time studies.

On the left is a photo from my presentation on the manufacturing process improvements possible for Nike’s basketballs and baseball gloves.

An A3 analysis study of The Ribline trained me to pinpoint MUDA wastes in the food industry and sharpen my time study conducting skills. It was so exciting revisit the company after the project proposal was delivered and to see my team’s efficiency-maximizing Visio layout diagram brought to life!

Through one of my favorite technical writing projects, I had the opportunity to help a SLO local roasting company, Coastal Peaks Coffee, develop a solution-optimizing plan to help their plateauing business.

I am geared up to work again this summer in the coffee bean roasting industry, documenting and analyzing the chemical reaction steps in roasting a great cup of coffee and brainstorming ideas to make the roasting process more efficient.
