About Me

Hi there.  My name is Chris Mathe and I’m currently studying computer science.

3 years ago, I decided to switch careers after spending nearly a decade in IT sales and marketing.  At the end of my career, I developed technical experience with marketing automation systems and began writing programming code for database applications.  I’m a post-baccalaureate student and I’m seeking a second degree in computer science so I can follow my dreams of becoming a big data professional.

Education

In 2008, I completed my first undergraduate degree in advertising at Texas State University, with a minor in business administration.

Today, I’m currently on track to complete my second degree in computer science at the University of North Texas by 2022.

Repair Experience

I’ve acquired numerous skills over the years, but my greatest first-hand experience with repairs evolved from being a homeowner. I’m an avid do-it-yourself advocate that grew up in a household of carpenters and machinists.

I’m no machinist, but I have accomplished great feats working with wood and completing home renovation projects.   In fact, there isn’t much I can’t fix in my house unless it involves HVAC, foundation, and advanced electrical repairs.

I built this shed because my wife became frustrated with all my lawn equipment taking up too much space in the garage.

Here’s a list of other home projects I’ve completed:

  • Installed an irrigation sprinkler system
  • Rebuilt my outdoor deck
  • Replaced laminate, tile, and carpet flooring
  • Built a walk-in closet
  • Replaced lighting, ceiling fan, and wall fixtures
  • Repaired faucets, kitchen sinks, and plumbing

Skills

  • IT Helpdesk Technical Support
  • Programming in C++, VB.Net, VBA
  • Microsoft Excel, Access, and SQL
  • Salesforce.com

Hobbies

I’m mostly consumed with school at the moment, but I love technology and enjoy using my analytical skills to solve real-world problems. I like to work on STEM projects using platforms like Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and other single board computers (SBC) to develop control automation solutions. I was working on designing a prototype for a CNC milling machine for my father, but I had to put that project on hold so I can focus on school.

My most consistent hobby is exercising.
