INTRODUCTION

Hello, my name is Kee Her and I am a Junior at Oregon Institution of Technology. I am currently pursuing my BS in Mechanical Engineering Of Technology. I’ve been in the manufacturing industry for about 10 years now and decide to reside in the engineering field. I am a person who loves to be hands-on and find interest in how mechanical things work and operates.

I am currently working as an Equipment Maintenance Technician at Element Six where diamonds are grown with technology also know as Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD). The process is unique to see what would normally take thousands a year grown diamonds underground naturally but done with technology in matters of weeks to a couple of months. Although Element Six has been around 76 years, our facilities new located in Gresham Oregon, and had only announced their grand opening about a few months ago. I have been apart of the team for 1 year now and responsible for commissioning and sustaining the machinery equipment.

Within my 10 years of manufacturing experience, I was a Manufacturing Engineering Technician at Creganna Medicals, where I owned a process and ensured productivity was efficient. I really enjoyed the role of designing and understanding process capabilities, validating, approving the new product prints, and creating/editing standards for the production team. This is a role I can see myself in the future as it is a challenge and well-rounding team involvement to complete big and small projects.

PROJECTS

With little to no experience in landscaping, I took on a big backyard house project. The following steps apply:

* Research (regulations restrictions), drawing sketches, and sourcing the materials.

  • Planning of course was a major role when doing projects. I’ve done plenty of projects for work and school but nothing near as big, especially one that is a one-man team and on a budget.
  • How am I going to complete the project safely since the entrance is sloped? An excavator was of course involved but only to dig and flatten the yard. Roughly 6.5 tons of dirt and sod was removed with wheelbarrows.

Like most projects I’ve done in the past, this one was by far the biggest. Each project taken has taught me to continuously think about how I can improve myself the next time I do a project or how could have it been done differently. This type of critical thinking has helped me as an engineering technician and to make ethical decisions.

Whenever I’m not so busy with myself, I enjoy being outdoors and spending time with my little family. If possible, I like going to places where technology and social media have no services. This will allow quality time spent together and embrace life away from the busy city life we all know.
