Hello, my name is Zeniff Aviles (I go by Zab) and I’m attending York University currently attending my 2nd Year majoring in BComm ITEC specializing in E-Commerce development. I chose this major because I’ve always had an interest in computers ever since I was little, I liked playing computer games a lot and wanted to make my own games and modifications of games. I started teaching myself how to program since I’ve always had a fascination with building something out of nothing and computers and IT gives me the ability to do so.

In the future, I would like to get into the cybersecurity field working as a cybersecurity engineer. With modernization and digitalization, privacy and security are becoming even more of a necessity within the private and public sectors. I want to be able to help improve protection from growing cyber-attacks.

I do have a general idea of repairing and troubleshooting things like computers and laptops. I was always seen as the tech guy by my friends and family so ever since my early teens I did some small repairs like fixing printers, replacing a laptop’s fan and thermal pad, cleaning out someone's desktop, etc. I like the idea of taking things apart, understanding what each part does and putting them back together again, and using the knowledge gain from that to help myself and others

Here’s a picture of a recently built computer that I made

One of the projects I worked on was during the quarantine last year and I wanted to do something completely out of my comfort zone and something unrelated to what I’m majoring in. I started working with garments and reworking old vintage clothes I found in the thrift store. I had to teach myself basic hand sewing and alteration I can do with a specific type of garments

Here is a reworked sweatshirt and I use a “renaissance” paint blanket found at a thrift store to give a new look to it.

I’m excited to develop and test my skills in a more structured and professional environment. I hope to develop strong organizational skills and project management and be able to implement and apply the skills obtained in my future career
