Teardown Tech at iFixit
Hello! I'm Shahram and I'm one of the Teardown Techs for iFixit's YouTube channel. I started out as a Parts Tester in 2021 and joined the Teardown team earlier in 2022. Like most of my colleagues, I love taking things apart and attempting to make sense of what's inside.
Teardowns are fun but my real passion is repurposing things towards new functions. That means taking a teardown to the next level which usually involves datasheets, soldering, and 3 plasters. That's right, I literally put my blood, sweat, and tears into my work and I love every moment of it.
Education & Experience
I studied Central and Eastern European History at the University of Glasgow and earned my bachelors degree in 2011. I spent the next nine years working in London, juggling clients in various time zones, before deciding to change my career path and try something new.
Since moving to the United States in 2020, I've steadily branched out into various fields in the tech sector and my sights are currently set on an Electrical Engineering degree.
In the meantime, I get to do what I love. I take things apart and I fix things. On occasion I also break things.
Favourite Fixes
Aside from converting everything in sight from American English to English, my favourite fix has been a recent Micro-USB to USB-C project.
This was also my first foray into both soldering and micro-soldering.
My kids accidentally broke a micro-USB cable and instead of replacing it with another micro-USB, I decided to just convert the plug to something hardier. I spent a couple of weeks researching and a solid 2 days at the iron but it was worth it!
More About Me
When not tinkering or studying, you'll usually find me playing Minecraft with my boys or out exploring my surroundings. I do like to keep busy so more often than not I'll be planning a new project or actively working on an old one.
