Community Manager: Data, Guides, and Wikis
Hej, I’m Kris Rodriguez and I am the Community Manager for Data, Guides, and Wikis at iFixit.
I am responsible for our department’s data. This includes gathering, cleaning, and transforming raw data to help us understand our KPIs. And then using that knowledge to grow the community and improve the overall user experience.
I also curate community and in-house guides and wikis. This means I check them for accuracy, spam, and flag them for missing information.
Ultimately, guides and wikis filter through my queue for review (and if they’re solid) they make it onto the iFixit site.
Every now and then, you can read a blog post from me.
Education
I hold a Master of Science in Mass Communications from San José State University, where I also received my Bachelor of Science in Journalism and Sociology.
Experience
I have always fixed or made things. So much so that I didn’t think of repair as its own movement until I started working at iFixit. I’m no expert-fixer, but I do value the things I buy and make, so I try to keep them around for as long as possible.
Favorite Fix
During my time in the army, repair took a front seat. One of my most memorable (and also my first) large-scale repair was swapping out an engine ''and'' a transmission on my 1151 after we pushed it too far on mission. Just a handful of us were involved, tools and parts were scarce, but we managed to get it up and running before dawn.
More About Me
In addition to iFixit, I'm also a lecturer in writing and mass media research. I live in the Bay Area with my dog Blu. I have a couple of stable hobbies like reading and writing- but I also like learning new things. So, I dabble in whatever catches my interest.
For the last few years, I've been learning Swedish, doing small-scale metalwork, listening to jazz, and missing the sky over far West Texas.
