(Bild 3).

I lost the Philips flat head screw, do you know the size and the length of the screw so I can replace it

    osama arnaouty -

I’ve been unable to remove the screw and want to avoid stripping the head.

    Roberto Rodriguez -

You need to use a philips screwdriver not a posidriv one. They look similar, but are not compatible.

Other than that, make sure the machine is totally cold, perhaps try wd40 or similar to help release it.

  5. UT6GD6aJWoTyk6Lj

Can it be fixed if it smokes when switched on

kathhaley -

Probably. it is not a complicated machine.

Depends how badly it is damaged inside.

Hi Leo,

Your content is very helpful.

Please help me to fix how to stop steam is coming from my brewing channel.

prof.kyungsukim -

Not entirely sure what you mean, but steam leaks are commonly caused by the failure of a rubber “O” ring seals on the water pipes inside the machine.

This Youtube video shows you how to replace it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pt_yHnh...

Leo Maxwell -

How do you fix a leaking steam wand

michael foley -

Not had that problem, but I expect you would need to replace the steam tap ('faucet' for USA or 'rubinetto' for Italy) connector, the tap itself or the rubber O-ring underneath it.

This post may help

Steam wand leaking. Not enough pressure for a good shot!!

Good Questions, i am too looking for some instructions on changing the Steamwand.
I have found the Original Part sofar.

Hi friend, I got Icona with strange problem, seems several problems:

delonghi icona problem - YouTube

Steam not comming at all to the noozle and machine oveheating.

You have advice, what to look for?

Thank you in advance for this guide and help

I had a drip that looked like it came from a loose dowel screw, so i dissassembled the machine and tightened the dowel. Now no water comes out the difuser at all. ive released all pressure through steamm wand and turned machine off. how does the dowel actually work to release water when the button is pressed? isd the dowel meant to be loose

Liam Greene -

The spring behind the dowel screw adjusts the pressure.

Maybe that is too tight.

If you read my post you can see that there is a spring, a collar and a rubber plug behind the screw, they make up the pressure valve. When the pressure in the boiler is enough to overcome the resistance of the spring, then water comes out.

Maybe the dowel was loosened by somone to reduce the pressure.

You can adjust it by compressing or stretching the spring to make it lower or higher pressure, but it is a bit hit and miss. It may just need descaling.

I'm excited to get the parts to try and fix my 10 year old machine thank you for your instructions.. I'd there ant way I could send a video of my problem... it's really long to explain...

You could put a video up on Youtube and link to it here.

Hello all , i have a problem with the this icona . It looks like the machine does not have enough pressure to push the water trough the coffee holder. Instead it creates a vacuum fastening the coffeeholder/cup. Also it builds up heat and when the second light starts the lighten up it shuts off after a minute and i have the vacuum . ( instead of coffee :) ) I descaled it, replaced the pump , the threeway valve and cleaned the outlet . Advice much appreciated.

RdB -

Only thing I can think of is that filter in the coffee holder is blocked, so the steam pressure forces it to clamp too tightly, and the water cannot get though to it.

Does water come through if you run it without the coffee holder?

If so, dismantle and clean the coffee holder.

Some of them only have one hole, if that gets blocked nothing will come through.

Hello Leo , Thx very much for youre reaction. I cleaned it indeed still the machine shuts off affter a few seconds . ( water runs for a few seconds) I was thinking it maybe might be the printboard in the machine but i dont know anything about electronics.
However thx again and if you or someone has some ideas hope to hear that. ( if i find the solution i post it here )
Greetings RdB

By the way do you know what is the white paste on the heaterblock ( is between the block and the two thermostats and the block at the side ) ?

RdB -

Probably thermal transfer paste

Hello Leo , thx very much again. ( i d never heard of it so learned again something . Thx again and my search continues ) .

Greetings RdB

Hi am wondering how do you stretch the spring taller? I tried to pull the spring apart with my hands, but after reassembling water still leaks from the grouphead when the boiler is on.

timkhoo -

I used a pair of pliers.

You also need to check if the rubber valve head is OK, they can harden with age and not make a good seal. Also the brass collar may be corroded. (I have seen them missing) and make sure to clean any detritus from the valve cavity.

Leo Maxwell -

Interesting walkthrough, but I’m curious — in my experience with De’Longhi Icona repairs, a persistent drip after startup isn’t always just the valve spring or mushroom head.
I’ve seen cases where a tiny crack in the brass collar or even scale buildup inside the boiler outlet channel caused the same symptom.

Has anyone here actually checked for micro-cracks in the collar during this repair?
I feel like it’s easy to miss, especially if the part looks fine at first glance.

tamir24 -

A lot depends on water quality, hard water causes limescale build-up, very soft water encourages corrosion.

If you read the Fixit, In step 2 I recommend trying descaling before doing anything else.

I also mention that the brass collar can often become corroded and even sometimes totally disappear.

I have also seen a dowel nut with a split in it, possibly from overtightening.

De Longhi intensa machine . Coffee beans are grinding but coffee is slow or fails to flow .
