Use this guide to replace the fan assembly in your Lenovo Yoga C640-13IML. The fan and heatsink plays a crucial role in cooling your laptop by drawing heat away from the CPU. If your device is overheating, shutting down under load, or if the thermal paste has dried out, replacing the heatsink can help restore normal thermal performance.

Caution: The fan and heatsink may become extremely hot during or after use. Allow the laptop to cool completely before starting the repair to avoid burns. Always power off the device and disconnect the battery before handling internal components.
Note: Replacing the heatsink usually involves removing the cooling fan and reapplying thermal paste to ensure proper heat transfer. Make sure to replace the thermal paste before you replace the heat sink.

Schritt 1

Use a Torx T5 screwdriver to remove the six 4.60 mm screws on the sides of the laptop securing the bottom panel.
Keep the screws organized in a pile to make reassembly easier.

Schritt 2

Insert a plastic spudger or opening pick into the seam on the side of the laptop between the bottom panel and the chassis.
Gently slide the tool along this seam to release the internal clips.
Go slowly to avoid cracking or snapping the plastic clips.
Once the internal clips are released, lift the bottom panel off.

Schritt 3

Use a Philips #0 screwdriver to remove the five 4.60 mm Phillips #0 screws securing the battery to the chassis of the laptop.
Keep these screws in a separate pile from the bottom panel screws.

Schritt 4

The battery of the laptop is connected by a short connector cable located at the top of the battery.
Use the flat end of a spudger to lift and unclip the outer edges of the battery. You may need to use your fingers to pull the connector completely out of its socket after loosening it.
Do not pull on the battery wires—only lift from the plastic base of the laptop using a spudger.
To reconnect the connector cable after repair, carefully position the connector over its socket above the battery and press straight down—the connector should snap into place without much force. If you're having trouble, the connector is most likely misaligned. Reposition it and try again.
Lift the battery out of the laptop.

Use a Phillips #0 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the fan assembly
Lift and remove the housing and heat sink from your device to access the fan underneath.

Schritt 6

Use the point of a spudger to push on alternating sides of the fan assembly connector to "walk" it out of its socket.
It may take a lot of alternating before the connector comes out. Be patient, and don't pull on the cables.
To reconnect the cable, align the connector and use a spudger or clean fingernail to push it fully into the socket.
Don't push on the cables themselves, or you may damage the connector.
