So i just had my station die on me, is this a new laser in this step or the existing one?

Can you use HLD830030N5T, 5,6mm TO18 30mW 830nm Laser diodes as replacement or is the wattage different?
Thank you for the Info that the 1.0 Laser works in the 2.0 Variant!

Johannes Steinchen -

TLDR, no you need 200mw to replace it.

The wattage for a base station laser is 200mW 830nm. With a 30mW I would expect the laser to immediately burn out because of constant current output.

Omegakitty -

Thank you very much!

Johannes Steinchen -

by any chance could you send a link to that exact laser please and thank you

xen isy -

for instance would this work?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/166018393905?ch...

xen isy -

Yes, that would work

I've replaced the Laser with a 830nm 200mW Laser, Visual with Phone Camera is good and the Station accepts it but the Vive pro doesnt see it sadly. I suspect the alignment of the Laser Diode isnt good, but i do not have the equipment to align a laser without burning my retinas.
Was worth a shot tho.

Thank you.

Johannes Steinchen -

Unfortunate, I do get that on my index controllers sometimes where it doesn't like one of my 4 fixed base stations

Omegakitty -

did it work? it seems my diode is broken too. how to open the cover without damaging it?

Chris Crack -

I don't know if you can open it without damage because I opened it the same way as ifixit yt video

Omegakitty -

Wondering about this too as I would like to be able to glue the front cover back on after replacing the laser diode.

An option may me to use a handheld rotary tool with a thin cutting disc, got to better then melting the thing off.

John O'Brien -

Hi, please tell me what is the item in step 5. Marked D2

Алексей Ребещенков -

I replaced the diode itself. I removed the diode assembly, and the diode is press fitted into it. I desoldered the circuit board on top of the diode first. Drilled a small hole into the diode, screwed a small screw into the new hole. Applied heat to the assembly, and pulled apart with pliers. There is a flat on the diode housing, 90 degrees counterclockwise from that is where the notch in the diode lines up. The housing also had a yellow paint dot there. I had to hammer the new diode in with a screwdriver handle and a small torx bit with extended bit holder. Solder the original board to the diode and put it all back together. There was a small amount of dust that remained inside the diode housing but didn't affect its operation. <img src="https://i.ibb.co/99sSV9rd/20251019-15144... alt="20251019-151449-1" border="0">

where are the replacement parts ?

Kamyak Addagatla -

Ebay, you need to buy 830nm 200mw diodes unless you have old 1.0 base stations to get the assembly from. It does require extra work to do the diode method

Omegakitty -

Is running a base station without the front plastic shielding a concern for eye safety?

Playah.J.Awesomes@gmail.com -

I wouldn't say it is a concern, just don't stare directly into it for too long, I ran without covers for about 3 years
