Background and Identification
The Citroën C3 is a supermini subcompact car produced by Citroën, a French automobile manufacturer, since April 2002. The C3 replaced the Citroën Saxo in the company’s model line up. The Citroën C3 is produced with a five-door hatchback body style, but the first-generation C3 was also produced in a two-door convertible version named the C3 Pluriel. The DS3, a three-door hatchback with a similar design as the second-generation Citroën C3. In July 2008, a mini MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) version of the C3 was released and called the C3 Picasso. The C3 Aircross, a mini SUV version, was sold in South America.
The first-generation Citroën C3 was produced in 2002 for the 2003 model year only as a five-door hatchback. In Brazil, it was produced between 2003 and 2012. The C3 was sold with a range of gasoline and diesel engines paired to either a five-speed manual, four-speed automatic, or five-speed SensoDrive transmission. The SensoDrive transmission is an automated manual transmission (AMT), also called a clutchless manual transmission that was sold with the Stop & Start C3 model. The SensoDrive transmission is a five-speed automated manual transmission with paddle-shifters and manual and automatic modes.
Citroën automobiles include the Citroën emblem, which features two boomerang-shapes stacked on top of each other with the name “Citroën” underneath. They also include a “C3” emblem placed on the rear of the car.
