Identification and Background

The Gateway MA6, model number M465-E, is a business class laptop that was originally released in early 2006. The MA6 was one of the earlier models to ship with a dual core processor.

Nearly all Gateway laptops from this time period have a very similar case design, so it is important that you identify the model, which can be viewed on the identification sticker on the back of the device on the underside of the CD Drive. The identification sticker should say "MODEL No.:MA6" right below the Gateway Logo.

Gateway originally shipped the MA6 running Windows XP Professional. If the computer boots, you can also identify the model and specifications of the device through system control panel, or through running dxdiag (direct x diagnostics tools).

The MA6 was replaced less than a year later with a nearly identical model, featuring upgraded specs such as a Core 2 Duo processor, upgraded RAM, a larger hard drive and newer model video card. The upgraded model was released under the same model number, and is identical, apart from upgraded hardware specifications.
