Background and Identification
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-G7 is an all-rounder beginner friendly camera with a maximum image quality of 4592x3448 pixels (16 MegaPixels) and 4K video recording at 30 fps to a SD/HC/XC card. The DMC-G7 features numerous connection options including USB and Wi-Fi and a replaceable rechargeable battery. Two body color options were released: fully black and dark silver with black grip material. The DMC-G7 replaces the 2013 DMC-G6 and was succeeded by the DMC-G8 (aka G80/G85) in September of 2016.
To identify the camera, the model number can be found next to the Panasonic logo on the bottom of the camera near the tripod mount and should read: “DMC-G7”.
The Panasonic DMC-G7 is a small mirrorless interchangeable lense camera with a flip-out, 270° rotating, LCD display. The camera has a textured rubber grip around the front and sides. A covered external microphone input is located on the left side of the camera and the right side houses the HDMI, AV and remote shutter ports. Shoulder strap eyelets are located on the top of both sides. On the bottom of the camera is the tripod mount and compartment for the battery and SD card. The flip-up flash assembly with an attachment point for an external flash device is located on the top of the camera above the electronic viewfinder. The front of the camera holds the lense mount and a lense release button to the right.
Although the DMC-G7 was released in 2015, Panasonic continues to sell it as their entry level mirrorless camera. Its video and still capture capabilities are still competitive today; therefore, should the camera suffer from repairable issues, it is worthwhile to not merely let the camera go to waste.
