Background and Identification

The Sony Xperia Z5 Android smartphone was released in October 2015 alongside the Xperia Z5 Compact and Xperia Z5 Premium. It was launched in the United States in February 2016. The Z5 was available in white, black, gold, green, and pink bodies.

The European Union model of the Xperia Z5 is Sony’s first smartphone to include a fingerprint sensor. It also features accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, and barometer sensors. It is dust-resistant and water-resistant in 1.5 meters of freshwater for up to 30 minutes. The Xperia Z5 includes scratch-resistant glass and an aluminum frame.

The Xperia Z5 includes 32 GB of internal storage and 3 GB of RAM with microSD card expansion up to 200 GB of internal storage. Its 2900 mAh battery is not removable. (A non-removable battery is one whose adhesive is permanent, making repair and replacement difficult.) In contrast, the Xperia Z5 Premium contains a much larger 3,430 mAh non-removable battery, and the Xperia Z5 Compact supports a smaller 2700 mAh non-removable battery. The Z5 also includes 18 Watt fast-charging capabilities.

Reviews praised the Z5’s fingerprint sensor and strong battery life but were disappointed that the phone does not include wireless charging.

Sony Xperia phones can be identified by the name “Sony” in capital letters in the center of the rear of the device in capital letters. They also include the name “Xperia” in capital letters in the bottom center of the rear and on the frame of the phone. The phone’s 23-megapixel main camera is positioned in the top left corner with the flash below it.
