Background and Identification

Whirlpool originated as a company in 1951 when a previous business venture called Upton Machine Company was revamped and renamed. The company changed direction and began focusing on selling home appliances. Upton Machine Company was founded in 1911 by Louis and Emory Upton. Today, the company, known now as Whirlpool, manufactures a range of home appliances, including refrigerators, oven ranges, microwaves, dishwashers, washers, and dryers.

The Whirlpool refrigerator line has a range of various refrigeration systems to meet differing kitchen needs. Whirlpool makes french door, side-by-side, bottom-freezer, and top-freezer options. Whirlpool also offers refrigerators at a range of price points. Some Whirlpool french door refrigerators sell for close to $4,000. Alternatively, Whirlpool offers a top-freezer refrigerator (the 24-inch Wide Small Space Top-Freezer Refrigerator) for just $549.00, which is a significantly more cost-effective option.

Whirlpool refrigerators are all essentially large rectangular boxes with doors. The various refrigerator styles include doors in different places that open to refrigerator compartments. Whirlpool refrigerators all have the Whirlpool logo somewhere on the front of the appliance, most likely at the top center or top right corner. Whirlpool refrigerators come in a range of neutral colors, including (but not limited to) black, stainless steel, white, and biscuit.
