Background and Identification
Released in 2017, the Xbox One X is the latest console in the Xbox One series. Previously known as Project Scorpio, this console features upgraded hardware to enhance performance and render games at 4K resolution. The Xbox One X features a system-on-chip (SoC) known as the Scorpio Engine which can generate 6 teraflops of graphical computing performance. This is the highest of any console at the time, and performs better than its main competitor: Sony PlayStation 4 Pro.
Just like its predecessor, the Xbox One X is backwards compatible with many software titles released on prior consoles. Over 600 Xbox 360 and original Xbox games are compatible with the Xbox One X, and select titles feature the Xbox One X enhancements.Games that feature these improvements are marketed as Xbox One X Enhanced games. Xbox One X Enhanced titles are optimized to natively run at a 4K resolution or support HDR. Although the Xbox Games marketing head assures that the Xbox One X won’t have exclusive titles, others speculate that the decision will be ultimately left to the developers who develop the video games.
Unlike its predecessor, the Xbox One X is available in a dark black finish. There are currently two model numbers for the Xbox One X: X21-36221-02 and X21-36221-03. The model number can be found on a label on the back of the device to the right of the ethernet port.
The most often replaced Xbox One X parts include the power supply, motherboard, hard drive, and fan assembly.
