Introduction

How to change the firmware with Sony PC Companion if you forgot your Password, PIN, Pattern, Screen Lock.

PC Companion will install the latest firmware on your phone and will reset it to the Factory setting.

You can use this technique also if your device not boot properly.

!!! This will erase all your personal data!!!

    • Install Sony PC Companion in your PC.

    • Connect your laptop to power supply since the update of your phone will take some time.

    • Now choose "repair my phone / tablet". By this way you can fully erase your phone and remove any security password, PIN etc., or change firmware if your phone have OS problem and can't be powered on correctly.

    • This is your last warning about losing your personal data.

    • PC Companion will download some files to prepare your PC for software update.

    • Your phone / tablet must be at last 80% for the update to proceed safely!

    • You should not confuse the model.

    • The USB cable must be connected only to the PC.

    • Turn off the phone.

    • Press and hold the Volume Down button while plugging the cable into your phone.

    • Once connected, PC Companion will download necessary firmware and will upload it to your phone.

    • Now your phone is in factory condition, with erased custom data and without password protection.

PC Companion does not acknowledge the connection to the handset - requests to wait until restart complete and/or PCC detects handset - neither happen as stuck in loop - cables are all ok

If you use Windows 10 you need to disable the driver signature enforcement to install the android usb drivers from the Sony homepage. For that you need to do an restart with special setup of Windows 10.

The current version of Xperia Companion (v. 1.5.3.0) had 2 errors on my PC (W7 64 SP1):

1) Setup with .DLL problem: I fixed the problem by installing an update for Windows - Windows KB 2533623 (Windows6.1-KB2533623-x64.msu) -, easily found on the Microsot website. After the update, the Companion was installed normally;

2) Several failures when trying to upgrade or repair my smartphone, such as "unexpected error", "login failure", "download failure", etc .: I corrected the problem by uninstalling the "Sony Mobile Update Engine", by Control panel. This software is installed automatically by the Xperia Companion setup. After uninstalling this software, Xperia Companion will no longer display any errors (and will install the Sony Mobile Update Engine again during the operation of your device, this time not causing the error!).

At least for me everything worked this way and, since I did not see this unusual solution on another site, I decided to post it, in case it would be useful to someone else.
