Introduction
Removing the wheels from a car is a very common step when performing repairs. Wheels are removed to access brake, suspension, and steering components. The wheel may also need to be removed in the event of a damaged tire or wheel, or when performing a tire rotation.
The following guide was created with an SES model Focus. Different factory and aftermarket wheels may have additional steps to access the wheel lug nuts, but the steps are essentially the same.
Tools
-
-
Put the car in park (automatic) or neutral (manual).
-
Apply the parking brake.
-
Place chocks behind the rear wheels.
-
-
-
Use a hydraulic jack on the car's frame to jack the car.
-
A small notch shows where to place the jack.
-
It is only necessary to jack the car until the wheel no longer touches the ground.
