Esaĝila

Esaĝila (auch Esangila, Esaĝil, šešgallu) hieß ein Tempel in Babylon zu Ehren von Marduk, der höchsten Gottheit der Babylonier. Marduk wurde später, wohl aufgrund der Machtstellung Babylons, in ganz Mesopotamien verehrt. Esaĝila ist sumerisch und bedeutet Haus „Erhobenes Haupt“.
