Ein System bezeichnet in der Erdgeschichte eine Einheit der Chronostratigraphie. Sie entspricht in der Geochronologie der Einheit Periode. Ein System bzw. eine Periode umfasst in der Regel Zeitintervalle von mehreren Zehnermillionen Jahren.
