Ein Provent war der gekaufte Unterhalt in einer katholischen Institution, eines Klosters, Stifts oder Bischofssitzes. Es handelte sich dabei vorwiegend, aber nicht ausschließlich um die Altersversorgung von Geistlichen und von Laien.
