Der Rajon Apostolowe wurde 1923 gegründet. Er hatte eine Fläche von 1.380 km² und eine Bevölkerung von 57.468 Einwohnern (Dezember 2012). Die Bevölkerungsdichte betrug 42 Einwohner pro km².
Der Verwaltungssitz war die Stadt Apostolowe, die 175 km südwestlich der Oblasthauptstadt Dnipro, 45 km nordwestlich von Krywyj Rih und 65 km östlich von Nikopol liegt.
Am 17. Juli 2020 kam es im Zuge einer großen Rajonsreform zum Anschluss des Rajonsgebietes an den Rajon Krywyj Rih.
