Ashford & Simpson

Nickolas Ashford (* 4. Mai 1942 in Fairfield County, South Carolina; † 22. August 2011 in New York) und Valerie Simpson (* 26. August 1946 in der Bronx, New York) waren ein US-amerikanisches Songwriter- und Produzentenduo, das in den 1960er Jahren mit Kompositionen für das Plattenlabel Motown Musikgeschichte schrieb.

Soul-Klassiker wie Ain’t No Mountain High Enough (1967), Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing oder You’re All I Need to Get By (1968) entstanden in dieser Zeit. Ab 1973 nahm das Duo auch selbst Platten auf und Hits wie It Seems to Hang On (1978), Found a Cure (1979), Solid (1984), Outta the World (1985), Count Your Blessings (1986) und I’ll Be There for You (1989) machten Ashford & Simpson weltweit bekannt. Im Laufe ihrer über 40-jährigen Karriere fungierte Ashford in der Regel als Komponist und Simpson als Liedtexterin.
