Die Omphalotaceae wurden 1985 als neue Familie der Ordnung Boletales von Bresinsky etabliert. Derzeit werden sie den Champignonartigen (Agaricales) zugeordnet. Die Typusart der Familie ist der Dunkle Ölbaumtrichterling (Omphalotus olearius).
