Paedocypris progenetica ist weltweit die kleinste bekannte Fisch-Art und galt bis zur Entdeckung der Froschart Paedophryne amauensis als das kleinste Wirbeltier. Gemeinsam mit Paedocypris micromegethes besitzt die Art im Vergleich zu anderen Fischen einzigartige Merkmale.
