Somatochlora hineana ist eine Vertreterin aus der Familie der Falkenlibellen (Corduliidae), die zu den Großlibellen (Anisoptera) gehört. Benannt ist die Art nach dem Sammler des Holotypus James S. Hine. Sie gilt als eine der bedrohtesten Arten der Vereinigten Staaten.
