For some reason Discover doesn't start on Kubuntu for me. This has started happening starting a few weeks ago. I can run apt-get commands just fine from the console with no warnings or errors. There is no output on the console if I run the command plasma-discover --mode update in Konsole.

Also if I launch plasma-discover --mode update under another account, say root using sudo, it starts up properly.

How can I debug this further? I suspect some config file is corrupted but I cannot figure out which one.

  • Welcome to the Ubuntu Ask community. To make it easier to diagnose your issue, please edit your question to include any errors that are generated when you run this application (doing so from command line should provide some feedback, warnings, or errors). Thanks – richbl Jun 07 '23 at 01:19
  • So, no error when running plasma-discover? – cipricus Jun 08 '23 at 12:40
  • Correct, I am stumped. – proteus Jun 08 '23 at 18:54
  • Same issue here with Kubuntu 24.04. Only launching with sudo makes no difference. – rustyx May 10 '24 at 13:36

  • This worked for me: sudo apt purge plasma-discover-backend-snap based on this post: https://www.kubuntuforums.net/forum/currently-supported-releases/kubuntu-24-04-nitpick-noble-lts/software-support-bg/679024-plasma-discover-not-starting?p=679282#post679282 – Phoca May 23 '24 at 14:55
