  • Devices are named based on the order they announce themselves to the OS. This can change from boot to boot depending on the state of the devices being queried and the power delivery from the board. – matigo Feb 27 '24 at 10:21
  • does this Stack Exchange Q&A help in understanding how to persistently name the device in fstab? – graham Feb 27 '24 at 10:26
  • I also suffer from device name changes, so I mount based on UUID: sudo mount -t ext4 UUID=0ac356c1-caa9-4c2e-8229-4408bd998dbd /media/nvme – Doug Smythies Feb 27 '24 at 16:16
  • I am experiencing the same issue, linux kernel 6.8.9.

I did not have this issue on kernel 6.0.9, which I was running previously for about 1.5 years. I am running an Arch-linux derivative distro.
