I'm considering the switch from Thunderbird (which they broke a year and a half ago and haven't fixed, I have no emails and no calendars unless I go to safe-mode and have to reset all settings each time I launch TB) to evolution, but 2 things are blocking me:

  1. how do you (can you) remove an attachment from an email ? (in TB I have the option to save, delete or detach files, renaming them in the process. Too many files/pictures/signatures are attached to emails these days and they would bloat folders quickly if I can't remove them but keep their path in the stored emails)
  2. I cannot find a simple way to migrate my emails from TB. Do I really have to import manually every single subfolder in my local drive (I do not like cloud-based system and all my emails are stored locally) ??

Ubuntu: Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS Evolution: 3.52.3-0ubuntu1

Thanks for any help/light shedded on the issue (or suggestions of better email clients)

  • Migration of emails is always a bit of a hassle. I switched from TB to Claws Mail which is lightweight and super fast. Calendar or attachment remover are available via plugins, everything available in official Ubutu repositories. Another option is to fix your TB problems. – mook765 Feb 04 '25 at 19:16
  • "which they broke"? Who might "they" be? – user535733 Feb 05 '25 at 01:55
