I installed markdown here extension to chromium. In Gmail I created a new email with this text

_Hello_ `Markdown` **Here**!

but the conversion to markdown doesn't work. I tried all the options: Highlighting the text and then ctrl+alt+m, right click -> Markdown toggle and also clicking the markdown here extension logo. I work on Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS, codename “noble”. How can I make it work?

  • I have chromium 137.0.7151.119 (snap), ext is working fine. Could be that you have another extension installed which may conflict with "markdown here" extension – user.dz Jun 24 '25 at 21:07

Go to chrome://extensions/, Enable Developer mode, Find Markdown and click Details,

Ensure: "Site access" is set to On all sites or gmail.com, "Allow access to file URLs" (not necessary for Gmail, but good to check)

@JonTucker not sure why but now it works. Maybe it because two days have past and I shut down and reopen chromium during this time or maybe following your comment I enabled developer mode (and then disabled it), but anyway it works – J. Doe Jun 25 '25 at 22:32
