I'm setting up a windows 11 VM with libvirt and QEMU/KVM, using virt-manager. My system is the Asus G513QY Advantage Laptop with a 5900HX and 6800M, which is a MUXless system. My operating system is a flavor of Ubuntu 24.04, Kubuntu 24.04.3. From what I understand the cards are stacked against me.
Due to my system being MUXless I have to do some trickery including adding the vbios rom of my GPU to the config xml file of my VM. I got my .rom file from techpowerup under Asus 6800M. When I add the rom to the xml file and load the VM I get an error stating it cannot find the rom file. (It also complains about my cpu not supporting SMT/SMP, although without the rom tag it boots fine. Most likely a red herring).
Ive made sure that libvirt has permissions to the rom and even the folders its in. Here are the different permissions and commands I ran and configured, tested after each change. Before I tested I would restart libvirt:
sudo chown -R $USER:$USER etc/libvirt/vbios/
sudo chown -R 770 /etc/libvirt/vbios/
sudo chmod -R 660 vbios100273df1.rom
sudo chown -R $USER:libvirt /etc/libvirt/vbios/
Moved my rom to a place where libvirt and qemu can access my isos correctly. Seeing if it was a directory issue. These files have the following permission config:
