I would like to forward all network connections of all applications through a proxy, even though the applications themselves may not have proxy support.

Is such a thing possible in desktop Ubuntu?

This response on superuser.com recommends the proxychains package, which enables you to send all TCP connections on a system through a proxy (or chain of proxies).

  • The proxychains website clearly states "this program works only on dynamically linked programs", so it is not a solution for everything. Also it only works on programs you start manually. Unknown cronjobs, malware, etc. can circumvent proxychains. In a security-conscious environment, you would want to make unproxied connections impossible. – user2845840 Aug 26 '24 at 20:29
