Changing the oil on your dirt bike is an important maintenance procedure for increasing the longevity of engine life and it takes less than an hour. However, it is imperative that when performing this maintenance that safety is of utmost concern. Primarily, the dirt bike shall be placed on an appropriate dirt bike stand, contact your local dirt bike dealership to find your recommended dirt bike stand. This should be done on level ground.

Additionally, as you will be working with oil, it is vital that the oil be disposed of properly.     • Place the dirt bike on a level dirt bike stand. This can be dangerous due to the weight of the dirt bike, so use caution. If necessary, request the help of an additional person to lift the dirt bike up and place the frame rails on the bike stand face where it is stable and balanced.

    • Place an appropriate oil catchment container under the stand.

    • The oil drain bolt location is just under the the dirt bike, and above the oil container.

    • Put the nitrile gloves on.

    • Using a 12mm socket and 1/2" drive ratchet wrench, remove the oil drain bolt by turning it counterclockwise.

    • Allow oil to drain to the oil catchment container.

    • While the oil is draining, use a 8mm socket and 1/4" drive ratchet wrench to remove the two bolts on the oil filter cover on the right side of the dirt bike.

    • Rotate the oil filter cover so that it can easily be removed.

    • Firmly grasp and remove the oil filter cover by pulling on the tabs where the bolt holes are located. Use caution, as a small amount of oil may drip from the oil filter housing.

    • Once the oil filter cover is removed, take note of the position of the oil filter.

    • Remove and inspect the oil filter for any abnormalities (i.e., metal shavings, cloudy oil) as these are indicative of severe engine problems.

    • Place the used oil filter on the oil catchment container to allow for complete drainage.

    • Dab your finger in old oil and smear it on the rubber surfaces of the filter to ensure a proper seal.

    • Place a new oil filter in the oil filter housing in the same orientation that it was removed.

    • Replace the oil filter by lining up the bolt holes.

    • Use the 8mm socket and 1/4" drive ratchet wrench to tighten the two bolts.

    • Remove the oil fill cap located on the left side of the dirt bike.

    • Locate the oil level sight glass.

    • Pour oil into the oil fill nozzle until the oil level is located between the horizontal lines on the oil level sight glass.
