If your love of loud music blew out the speaker in your tablet, fear not. This guide will show you how to take out a worn speaker and replace it with a new one.

  1. JGVUBMMh53J1MYNQ
    • Begin by unscrewing the two 1.4 mm diameter Phillips #00 head screws at the top of the device.

  2. KWsP2HlQDwporNoO
    • Next, gently pry the cover off with a plastic opening tool or a similar instrument by loosening all of the anchoring points. Two of the anchoring points are circled in the image. Avoid excessive bending or pivoting, since doing so may break the anchoring points.

  3. 4ZD5VJYHXurfRlUG
    • After prying open all of the anchoring points, the cover will lift off of the tablet.

    • To replace the cover, simply snap it back in place and re-insert the two screws. Because the speaker is not fully fixed to the interior of the tablet, make sure that it is in the position that will allow it to fit inside the speaker mounting on the cover.

  4. lSd5nVSgMEDOmNhs
    • Gently peel back the black electrical tape covering the contact points between the speaker wires and the circuit board. The contact points are marked with a red box.

    • Before you start soldering, it may be a good idea to check out the soldering and desoldering guide.

    • Melt the solder around the contact points with a soldering iron while using a de-soldering wick to absorb the melted solder.

    • Once the solder is removed from the contact points, pull the wires away from the circuit board contacts.

    • When attaching a new speaker, do not solder the two contact points together.
