You just did it the hard way. My light went out on my 65 Twin Reissue, and I just unscrewed the red jewel lens and pushed on the bulb slightly while rotating it coumterclockwise, and the bulb came right out. To replace it, I pushed the new bulb in and rotated it clockwise, screwed the jewel lens back on and it was done. This took 1 minute. Glad I could help.

I just replaced the pilot bulb on my Blues DeVille. I couldn’t get the new bulb to twist into the socket after I successfully removed the old bulb. I took the plastic cap from a small marker and cut a small slit so that it fit onto the top of the bulb nicely. I was able to push the bulb into the socket, twist it in, and then pull the marker top off of the bulb, leaving the pilot light securely in the socket.
