Einleitung

Use this guide to replace a cracked or broken screen on your OnePlus 7T.

If the frame is deformed, it's important to replace it to make sure the new screen will mount correctly and won’t suffer damage from uneven pressure.

Due to the device’s design, you must remove the lithium-ion battery to access the display cables. If the battery was deformed during removal replace it with a new one—reusing a deformed battery is a potential safety hazard.

You’ll need replacement adhesive to reattach components when reassembling the device.

Schritt 1

Be sure to power off your phone before you begin.
Apply a heated iOpener to the rear glass for two minutes to loosen the adhesive beneath.
A hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate may also be used, but be careful not to overheat the phone—the AMOLED display and internal battery are both susceptible to heat damage.

Schritt 2

Apply a suction handle to the right edge of the rear glass.
If the back cover is cracked, the suction handle may not stick. Try lifting it with strong tape, or superglue the suction handle in place and allow it to cure so you can proceed.
Pull on the suction handle to create a gap between the rear glass and the frame.
Insert an opening pick into the gap.

Schritt 3

Slide the opening pick along the edge to the bottom right corner.
Leave the opening pick in the bottom right corner to prevent the adhesive from resealing.
Once you have inserted an opening pick, feel free to remove the suction handle or continue to use it for a better grip during this process.

Schritt 4

Insert a second opening pick in the gap you just created.
Slide the opening pick along the edge to the top right corner.
If you have trouble with slicing, you can use the iOpener again to soften the adhesive.
Leave the opening pick in the top right corner to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Schritt 5

When you slice near the camera assembly, insert only the tip of the opening pick (~4-5 mm) to avoid damaging or smearing the camera.
Insert a third opening pick under the top right corner of the rear glass.
Slide the opening pick along the edge of the phone to the top left corner to cut the adhesive.
Leave the opening pick in the top left corner to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Schritt 6

Insert a fourth opening pick under the top left corner.
Slide the opening pick along the edge to the bottom left corner to cut the adhesive.
Leave the opening pick in the bottom left corner to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Schritt 7

Insert a fifth opening pick under the bottom left corner.
Slide it along the the edge to the bottom right corner to cut the remaining adhesive.

Schritt 8

Remove the rear glass.
Apply new adhesive where necessary after cleaning the relevant areas with isopropyl alcohol (>90%).
Secure the new back cover with pre-cut adhesive or double-sided adhesive tape. After installing the back cover, apply strong, steady pressure to your phone for several minutes to help the adhesive form a good bond—a stack of heavy books works well.

Schritt 9

Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the eleven 3.6 mm-long screws securing motherboard cover.
One of the screws is hidden beneath a white water damage sticker.

Schritt 10

Insert the tip of an opening pick under the right bottom of the motherboard cover.
Slide the opening pick along the motherboard cover to release the plastic clips that hold it in its place.
Remove the motherboard cover.

Schritt 11

Use a spudger to disconnect the battery by prying the connector straight up from its socket.

Schritt 12

Use the flat end of a spudger to disconnect the two flex cables.

Schritt 13

Bend the two flex cables toward the bottom of the phone and out of the way of the battery.
Avoid folding or sharply bending the cables as you reposition them. Doing so could damage the cables.

Schritt 14

Use a spudger to carefully remove the adhesive tape on the left edge from the battery.

Schritt 15

Peel back the red pull tab.
Pull up on the red pull tab to lift the battery out of its recess and swing it up to an upright position.
If you're having trouble removing the battery, you can apply an iOpener to loosen the adhesive underneath the battery.

Schritt 16

Remove the battery.
Do not reinstall a damaged or deformed battery, as doing so is a potential safety hazard.
Secure the new battery with pre-cut adhesive or double-sided adhesive tape. In order to position it correctly, apply the new adhesive into the device at the places where the old adhesive was located, not directly onto the battery. Press the new battery firmly into place.
During reassembly, temporarily reconnect the battery to the motherboard to help align it correctly. Disconnect the battery after it's seated.

Schritt 17

Grab the edge of the film sticking out on the right side of the phone.
Pull the film towards the left side of the phone with steady force.
Remove the plastic film.

Schritt 18

Use a spudger to disconnect the screen by prying the connector straight up from its socket.

Schritt 19

The display cable is lightly adhered to the frame.
Grab the display cable with your fingers.
Pull the display cable toward the bottom of the phone.
Avoid folding or sharply bending the cable. Doing so could damage the cable.

Schritt 20

Heat an iOpener and apply it to the screen for two minutes.
A hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate may also be used, but be careful not to overheat the phone—the display and internal battery are both susceptible to heat damage.

Schritt 21

Apply a suction handle to the bottom of the screen.
If your display is badly cracked, covering it with a layer of clear packing tape may allow the suction cup to adhere. Alternatively, very strong tape may be used instead of the suction cup. If all else fails, you can superglue the suction cup to the broken screen.
Pull the suction cup up with strong, steady force to create a gap.
Insert an opening pick into the gap.

Schritt 22

Slide the opening pick along the bottom edge to separate the adhesive.
Leave the opening pick in the bottom left corner to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Schritt 23

Insert a second opening pick at the bottom left corner.
Slide the opening pick along the left edge to the top left corner.
Leave the opening pick in the top left corner to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Schritt 24

When you slice near the front camera, insert only the tip of the opening pick (~4-5 mm) to avoid damaging or smearing the camera.
Insert a third opening pick at the top left corner.
Slide the opening pick along the top edge to the bottom right corner to slice the adhesive.
Leave the pick in the top right corner to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Schritt 25

Insert a fourth opening pick at the top right corner.
Slide the opening pick along the right edge to the bottom right corner to slice the adhesive.
Leave the pick in the bottom right corner to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Schritt 26

Grab the display on the top and slowly pull the screen away from the frame.
If your screen is still sticking to the frame, slide the pick around the edges of the phone until the screen completely separates.
Thread the display flex cable through the gap in the frame.
Remove the screen.

Abschluss

If possible, turn on your device and test your repair before installing new adhesive and resealing.

Compare your new replacement part to the original part—you may need to transfer remaining components or remove adhesive backings from the new part before you install it.The best way to secure the new screen is to apply a sheet of custom-cut double-sided tape to the back of the screen.

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order. Apply new adhesive where necessary after cleaning the relevant areas with isopropyl alcohol (>90%).

Take your e-waste to an R2 or e-Stewards certified recycler.

A heat gun & I caused some heat damage to a small corner of my "NEW" replacement screen. Would this make the display not turn on at all? After putting everything back together, the only sign of life is a vibration when I plug in the charger. I didn't have USB debugging on before my screen initially broke so I can't tell if it's working minus the screen. Is there anything else that could be causing this? thanks

Hi jasen king, it sounds like it could be an issue with either the display cable or connector. You could try reseating the display connector, if that's not changing anything, you should check the connector socket for dust or bent pins or the display cable for any signs of damage. If your broken screen did still turn on, you could try reconnecting the old part to check whether there is an issue with your replacement part in general.
