In 2003, Acer Inc. signed a sponsorship agreement with Scuderia Ferrari, the racing division of luxury Italian automaker Ferrari. The Ferrari 4000 was released on June 21, 2005.

The Acer Ferrari 4000 is a notebook computer with a 15.4-inch display with a resolution of 1680 by 1050 pixels. It features a glossy carbon fiber lid, bearing Ferrari's rearing stallion logo and red accents reminiscent of Ferrari's signature paint color. It includes a wide touchpad and large mouse buttons with a central button to control scrolling and Web browsing. Four instant-start buttons are located above the keyboard and can be programmed to launch frequently used applications. The Acer Ferrari 4000 is positioned between thin-and-light laptops and desktop replacement laptops. It includes a 2 GHz Turion 64 ML-37 processor, a 5400 rpm 100GB hard drive and 1 GB of 333 MHz DDR SDRAM. In tests of the Acer Ferrari 4000 by CNET, the computer’s battery lasted approximately three and a half hours.

The Acer Ferrari 4000 includes four USB 2.0 ports, an unpowered FireWire port, an S-Video port, a VGA port, and a DVI port, as well as headphone and microphone jacks and a Bluetooth radio. The laptop also includes a slot for Type II PC Cards, as well as a flash card reader that supports Secure Digital, MultiMediaCard, Memory Stick, and xD memory cards.
