Troubleshooting

Track down a number of hardware problems using the Blackberry Pearl 8100 Cell Phone troubleshooting guide.

Identification and Background

The Blackberry Pearl 8100 Cell Phone was released November of 2006, and was one of the first smart phones of a smaller class. It has a camera, a trackball, a 24-key QWERTY keyboard, a 240x260-pixel LCD screen, and a 1.3-megapixel camera. Other models in the same series as the 8100 are the Blackberry Pearl 8110, Blackberry Pearl 8120, and Blackberry Pearl 8130.

The Blackberry Pearl 8100 was the only one of its series to come with a 1.3-megapixel camera (the rest came 2.0-megapixel cameras). The 8100 model also does not have video-recording capabilities, unlike the others in the series. Additionally, it does not have the GPS feature that the 8110 and 8130 had. It does have a push-to-talk feature.

Unfortunately, all of the phones in the Blackberry Pearl 8100 series (the 8100, the 8110, the 8120, and the 8130) are all outwardly identical - the only way to be certain yours is a 8100 model is to check the model number on the back of the logic board (beneath the battery, see guide here for how to remove the battery). However, most of the guides should work for all models of the 8100-series phones, though some of the replacement parts may be different.
