Soon both founders changed the company name to Garmin which happened to be both of their names merged together. The first device Garmin made came out in 1991 and was device made for cars that came out in 1998. By the early 2000s Garmin sold more than three million GPS devices, and produced 50 different models. They sold all of those devices in 100 different countries. During these times Gary Burrell retired as CEO in 2003 and in 2004 retired as chairman of board of directors. Gary remained chairman emeritus until he passed in 2019. Min replaced Gary as CEO and Chairman of the board of directors when Gary retired. After all of their success, in 2020 Garmin shutdown almost all of their services like their call centers, websites, and some online services. The shutdown was do to a big ransomware attack by hackers who demanded $10 million which thankfully got resolved sometime after.
